Visual Skills
Apart from being able to see clearly, visual skills that are needed are:
- Eye tracking - both eyes working together following a line of print.
- Eye teaming - both eyes working together to converge at near and far.
- Accommodation - eyes focusing.
- Binocular Vision - simultaneously blending images from both eyes into one image.
- Visual perception - includes visual memory, visualisation, directionality and sequencing.
As vision and learning are intimately connected, a vision problem can sometimes be mistaken for a learning problem.
If your child is struggling at school, it is important that they undergo a comprehensive vision examination.
If a vision problem is detected, a vision therapy programme may be the answer.
Our vision therapy programme is designed specifically for each child and helps them to develop their visual abilities. Programmes can be manual or computer based.
In each case, the optometrist will discuss your child's need with you and the options available.
Vision therapy is also available to adults.
